Top 100 (Dec 2012)

DISCLAIMER: For this list I decided to do something fun and use a random method to compose a top 100. My inspiration was Ignaty Vishnevetsky’s method for making his Sight & Sound ballot, but with 100 films. I took a pool of 125 films I loved, crammed them in a randomizer and took the first 100 ranked results and made this list. If nothing else, the ordering of the film is a bit more interesting. There’s also some shocking omissions. The randomizer moves in mysterious ways!

Nice! Any plans to put this up on Letterboxd?

Personal favorites: PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE; BADLANDS; SPIRITED AWAY; THE GODFATHER(s); ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST; ALIEN; BUFFALO ’66; SHOTGUN STORIES; THE BIG LEBOWSKI; PARIS, TEXAS; A CLOCKWORK ORANGE; RASHOMON; SAFE; FUNNY GAMES; INTO THE WILD; THE TRUMAN SHOW; BLADE RUNNER; and PAN’S LABYRINTH.

But I can only assume “DAY WATCH” is a typo. Surely, you prefer the darker and far less silly NIGHT WATCH, yes? I mean…right?

    • James Blake Ewing

I am a silly man and prefer the much more bizarre, insane, off-the-wall Day Watch. It’s not always coherent, but it’s always entertaining.

I might get this up on Letterboxd sometime this week.

Another potential typo: “off-the-wall” should probably read “off-the-building.”
