The Forbidden Room (2015)

The Forbidden Room is the kind of mindfuck movie that makes other mindfuck movies say “what the fuck?!?!” It’s a compilation of stories that span space and time, weaving in and out of each other to the point of almost incoherence. A group of men dying in a submarine, a pack of wolves, and a lecture on how to take a bath all become a jumble of plot points and bizarre events.

Your enjoyment will depend on how much you’re willing to go along for the ride. And what a ride it is. The filmmaking is top-notch with Eisenstein style editing and a cinematic style that spans the history of movies. It’s a film folding in on itself to the breaking point. It’s one of the films where I’m not sure it’s a good movie, and I’ve no idea how to explain what I watched, but I enjoyed the hell out of it.
