Growing up with video games is a weird experience. It’s not quite like any other medium. Sometimes it’s more like a sport where you have to train and practice to get good at something, other times it can be like a game of chess with meticulously planned moves and thoughts of long-term strategies.
Video games are a big part of my media consumption habits and I felt the urge to share some of my favorite games and highlight why they mean so much to me.
Are these the games I think are the best or my favorite games? Yes. It’s a mixture of games that I think represent the best of the genre but also ones that speak to me personally.
And, unlike other mediums, it has to be said that I have lots of blind spots. Video games are a time-consuming medium and lots of classics can take days to get through. I don’t have that kind of time and my interests are so diverse that gaming is just one of my many hobbies. I tend to know what I like and play those kinds of games. As much as I would love to have experienced the breadth of gaming, it’s simply too much.
