Spelunky is the game I play when I’m feeling down. Spelunky is the game I think about when I think about great game design. Spelunky is the game I want to see ported to the Switch the most. It checks so many boxes for me: endlessly playable, difficulty but fair, a game I can play to decompress, it lets me rescue dogs to gain health, and a game that continues to surprise me even after 100+ hours of play. - Invisible, Inc.
Turn-based tactical stealth strategy roguelike doesn’t sound like something that should work but it does. Klei found a way to take the plodding deliberation of strategy gaming and mix it with the tense sneaking of a great stealth game. It still captures that feeling of slyly moving past guards and getting past traps but from an unique perspective. - Shadow of the Colossus
There’s something about the first time you encounter each colossus, the simultaneous majestic awe mingled with looming dread that you’re going to have to find a way to bring it down. It’s a game constantly at tension with itself, beautiful and barren, awe-inspiring and haunting. There’s a hallowed feeling to this game, like you’ve stepped on sacred ground when you entered this world and no other game I’ve played evokes that feeling so perfectly. Video games have a tendency to want to replicate our world too much. With the potential for anything you could imagine, why not dream of something strange and bizarre? Morrowind does just this, presenting one of the most distinct and rich game worlds seeping with its own mythologies, ideologies, and politics that keep the main quest fascinating all the way up to the end.
